Thank You!

I just wanted to post a quick Thank You to all of the kind people who have stopped by the Northeast Llama Rescue site and donated to help the llamas.  We still have a long way to go to cover expenses, but thanks to the kindness of friends, we are getting there.

The llamas are doing very well.  If you visit again, you'll see that we've added a slideshow of photos of this lovely group.

Extra note from Gayle: 19 Llamas can use some help....

Northeast Llama Rescue and Barnyard Sanctuary, Inc, retrieved nineteen llamas this weekend from a farm which was undergoing foreclosure. There are seven intact males in this group who need to be gelded, and others with some obvious needs, and the veterinary costs alone are going to be astronomical. Please consider visiting: http://redmaplefarm.net NELR's website has a PayPal link at the bottom of the site which you can use to send a donation if you would like to help. Every little bit counts! There is also a link on the welcome page that will take you to more information about the rescue, and the Sanctuary hopes to be posting first-hand updates and photos to our website and blog very soon. Think Good Thoughts! --Gayle--

GAZEHOUND'S ANIMAL COMMUNICATION NEWS

March 2009

================================

Keeping in touch with the animals....
and the people who love them

================================

Focus

Although my newsletter articles are not usually “how-to” suggestions, as I sit here this month trying to rattle the muse into talking, I keep coming back to the word “focus”.

“Focus” can be a stumbling block when trying to connect with our animals.

When we are unfocused, when our minds are chaotic, it becomes difficult to communicate telepathically. When we're reading a book at night, and grow too tired to stay clear-headed, we read the same paragraph a half-dozen times and still don't know what it said. It's very much the same when we practice our animal communication skills while battling scattered thoughts.

Not only does proper focus move our thoughts in the right direction, it helps our animal friend to know how important he is at that very moment, and every moment of our lives. When we are talking to someone else's animal, it shows respect, and that we consider her thoughts and feelings to be of great value.

We all have occasional trouble keeping our thoughts from wandering. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I thought I'd share what some of my favorite authors have to say on the subject: animal communicators and others. Not only is it helpful to practice staying focused when in the presence of the animals, we must strive to become more deeply connected with our inner selves and the universe around us. The more connected we are to all that is, the greater our ability to truly reach the individuals with whom we share creation.

Penelope Smith, who originated the most popular workshop format for teaching animal communication, suggests: “The first step in overcoming this habit [of allowing distractions to interfere with our connection] is to find a time when you and an animal friend can be together in a peaceful environment. Sit comfortably within a few feet of each other, or whatever distance is agreeable to the animal. Don't try to grasp for attention or do anything that might be distracting. Just look at the animal quietly. Let all distractions, thoughts, or images of other things melt away, and focus softly on the animal. Continue to do this until you feel very relaxed and calm, with a relatively clear mind.”
[Penelope Smith, Animal Talk, page 54.]

Many teachers from all walks suggest various forms of meditation to help us to clear our thoughts, gain a greater sense of connection, and stay focused.

“It is said that we humans generate about forty thousand thoughts a day. That's a lot of thinking and self-talk. Imagine your mind as a telephone (pre-voice-mail, that is!). Most of the time our lines are busy – in order for anyone to get through, we have to hang up, decrease the number of thoughts we process, and become receptive and ready to listen. We need to open the line to receive others' communications. A number of relaxation and centering techniques can help us do this, including yoga, tai chi, and meditation. Of these, meditation is the easiest, for it requires no special training. I encourage people in my workshops to meditate every day.”
[Carol Gurney,
The Language of Animals: 7 Steps to Communicating with Animals, p. 13]

“One way to master your mind is to learn to quiet your mind. Without exception, every teacher in this book uses meditation as a daily practice. [...] Meditation quiets your mind, helps you control your thoughts, and revitalizes your body. The great news is that you don't have to set aside hours to meditate. Just three to ten minutes a day to begin with, can be incredibly powerful for gaining control over your thoughts.
[Rhonda Byrne,
The Secret, page 23]

Mike Dooley, one of the teachers in The Secret, and the founder of TUT.com (Totally Unique Thoughts), also recommends only meditating for five minutes a day. He suggests in his audio-seminar, Infinite Possibilities, that by limiting yourself to short periods of concentrated visualization, it accomplishes the task without giving you spare time to allow your mind to wander.

Another great technique for practicing focus is journaling. I have used various forms of journaling for many years, and always finds that it helps greatly. If done faithfully, writing in a daily journal can even be thought of as a form of meditation.

“It may be useful for you to think of the morning pages as meditation. It may not be the practice of meditation you are accustomed to. You may, in fact, not be accustomed to meditating at all. The pages may not seem spiritual or even meditative [...] but they are a valid form of meditation that gives us insight and helps us to effect change in our lives.”
[Julia Cameron,
The Artist's Way, page 13]

The author goes on to say that there are many ways of meditating, and that through meditation we acquire and acknowledge our connection to an inner power source, to insight, and begin to feel our creative identities. Journaling is another path to the same goal, and can lead to a more focused way of connecting with all life.

“Through the process of focusing your attention and following your thoughts, certain changes invariably occur. Disciplined practice makes you more spontaneous, more inventive, more self-respecting. Your mind becomes calmer, but at the same time, more alert. Your capacity to empathize with others grows and with it your ability to love and forgive.”
[Linda Trichter Metcalf, Ph.D, and Tobin Simon, Ph.D.,
Writing The Mind Alive (The Proprioceptive Method for Finding Your Authentic Voice), page 129]

Certainly, becoming calmer and more alert, with a greater capacity for love, is a key component to becoming a better interspecies communicator.

Although it is not always easy to keep our mind focused enough to clearly share thoughts and emotions with our animal friends, it is possible to improve with practice. Don't be afraid to try, even if you feel that you are not focused enough. Our non-human brethren are patient, and always willing to help us learn and grow. With their love and acceptance, and with the tools at our disposal, we will overcome those off-kilter moments and move ahead, growing more and more connected with all life around us.

FYI NOTES and NEWS

Don't Forget....

... that gift certificates do have an expiration date. If you've given them as gifts, or have them tucked safely away at home, check those dates and be sure to redeem them before they expire. I'll try to post a reminder in each issue of “Creature Thoughts”.

Remember, too, that the extended expiration date of gift certificates purchased during the 2007 Holiday Special ended on January 31st, 2009.

Website Features

The Book Shop

The Animal Communication Book Shop can be accessed as an external link from the Gazehound.com front page and the main Animal Communication page. On the "Introduction" page (reached by the button of that name in the side menu), the shop itself is built right into an inset at the bottom. I hope you find this a convenient way to research and review books on animal communication, as well as a number of other topics such as positive training, natural pet care, and "good for the human soul" sections.

New Books Added: The Positive Training section of the bookstore has a few new titles for your enjoyment.

Click and Connect by Teah Andrews puts a lovely emphasis on the relationship you can build with your dog as you train, with a focus on clicker-training.

When Pigs Fly by Jane Killion is a fun look at training with dogs who are declared “difficult to train”, a reputation held by certain breeds (my own Salukis included).

Fighting Dominance in a Dog Whispering World by Jean Donaldson and Ian Dunbar is a DVD that takes a look at the old “dominance theory” of dog behavior and how modern research indicates that it's archaic and obsolete ... not to mention potentially harmful to our dogs and the humans who love them.

Rover, Get Off Her Leg by Darlene Arden is a light-hearted (but very helpful) approach to training with a focus on problem behaviors.

Animal Teachers ... Higher Beings?

The Law of Attraction.  Autumn of 2006 heard many people asking, "Have you seen The Secret yet"?   I had, in fact, been exploring these concepts for years, as time after time they would fall in my path to be picked up and examined, and incorporated in various ways into my life.  The Secret, however, quickly became the introduction for many people into the ideas of The Law of Attraction (as they and many others have titled the concepts), and I do think of it as a very good beginning for a path of exploration that can bring people to some fascinating and beneficial discoveries.

I actually first discovered The Secret through a back door: the TUT.com website of Mike Dooley
, one of the teachers interviewed by Rhonda Byrne for the film/book.  "Totally Unique Thoughts", Dooley's daily Notes from the Universe, and the idea that "Thoughts Become Things" can be explored via links from the gazehound.com website, if you're interested.  The movie and book also introduced me to a number of other teachers, whose work I've looked into with interest, incorporating bits of wisdom along the way.  As one step leads to the next, the teachers continue to gather, and there always seems to be more depth and detail waiting to be explored.

Mike Dooley, on his website and in his audio courses, mentions Jane Roberts and the Seth books as part of his inspiration, and I've heard them recommended by others as well.  Seth, a channeled being from a different dimension (to put it in very basic terms) is similar to the Abraham teachings as brought forth by Esther Hicks, which are popular with so many explorers today.  One thing that did catch my eye, and it was at this point that I became somewhat disenchanted with Seth (etc.), is a suggestion I've heard repeated by a number of the teachers whose works I've explored over the years.

That is: that non-human animals are by default on a lower spiritual plane than those of us who have chosen to live in human bodies.

As an animal communicator, I've certainly not found this to be the universal truth, at least as I have been able to interpret my own experiences.  In fact, some of the most poignant wisdom that has fallen across my path has been relayed to me through contact with my animal friends.  It's my own observation that animals are as marvelously varied in their spiritual paths as human beings are, and that it may be a mistake to always assume that just because a spirit has chosen a non-human animal form, that being is on a lower level of evolution.

I believe (and of course my beliefs are my own and not in any way to be imposed upon another) that each of us choses what form will best help our own development, and best touch the lives of those others with whom we've opted to travel.  Just for one example: one of the wisest souls who has blessed me with his company was my Saluki, Yoda ... and am ever grateful for his companionship and the wisdom he shared.  Had Yoda been a human being, I do not believe he would have touched my life so influentially, nor been able to as effectively help the many other people (and animals) who felt that they were better for having known him.  Does this mean that Yoda was a higher being?  Although I can't say for a certainty, of course, my heart has always felt that he was an advanced teacher.

Have you known animal teachers whom you felt were beings of advanced spiritual development?  Or do you feel, as many of the teachers of recent day believe, that animal souls have, by default, not yet reached the level that human beings have?

I invite you to join me in discussing the topic on my Facebook page:

Gazehound's Animal Communication on Facebook

Quite a number of you have already joined me as "fans and friends", thank you!  I invite anyone else who'd like to join us to "come on aboard".  I'll be opening a new discussion topic, and will paste a copy of this article as the first post.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the subject.  There is one rule, however, and that is "Respect".  Remember always that each person's opinion is valued, even if it may disagree with our own, and please approach the discussion with courtesy for the variety of our thoughts.

Website Features

BOOKSTORE ONLINE!
I receive so many requests for book suggestions, for which I normally send people to my website's "Introduction" page and recommended reading list, that I've decided to take it a step further and make it easier for people to get more information, read reviews, and shop right from my site if they wish.  I've added an Animal Communication Book Shop to the website.  It can be accessed as an external link from the Gazehound.com front page and the main Animal Communication page, and on the "Introduction" page (reached by the button of that name in the side menu), the shop itself is built right into an inset at the bottom of the page.  I hope you find this a convenient way to research and review books on animal communication, as well as a number of other topics such as positive training, natural pet care, and "good for the human soul" sections.

New Section and Books Added:  I hope you'll enjoy the new section on wildlife and wildlife rehabilitation, which includes both care guides and field guides and a lovely book called Healers of the Wild -- a testimony to the power of love.  In the Positive Training section, be sure to page through to Victoria Stillwell's It's Me or the Dog.  My long stay in the hospital introduced me to her show on Animal Planet, and I find her positive approach and bright presentation to be delightful and inspiring.

Important Policy Update:
Well, this is not actually a change, simply a more strict enforcement of a policy already in place.  Due to several recent situations, I will from now on be strictly enforcing my policy of not offering follow-ups until the account is up to date on payments, unless the client already has a history of being reliable and faithful to their word.  This will encompass all aspects of my services.

In addition, for an indefinite period of time, I will not be accepting missing animal cases from new clients.  Existing clients may call me for a lost pet, and those will be taken on a selective case by case basis.

E-News List:
It has become more important than ever, due to recent circumstances, that all of my clients are subscribed to my e-news list.  Thus, whenever anyone inquires about information, or sets up an appointment, they will receive both an invitation to the list and a separate note from me letting them know they've been invited.  I strongly encourage all my clients to stay in touch, by remaining subscribed to this list.  And please feel free to forward this newsletter issue to any friends, family, and acquaintances whom you feel might be interested in joining us.

Gayle away Monday; farewell Sachet

Hello, Friends,

As many of you know, my dear little Sachet, 18 1/2 year old lilac point Siamese, has been struggling with kidney disease. I wish to thank those who have offered support, comfort, and advice as Sachet and I have dealt with her illness. I am sad to report that Sachet passed into spirit this morning ... but comforted that her passing was gentle, quiet, and she was in no discomfort or pain. She just fell asleep.

I will be taking tomorrow off just to give myself a chance to honor my emotions, but as Sachet has always been so supportive and enthusiastic about my connection with our many animal friends, I intend to return to scheduling appointments on Tuesday (1/6/09). I just wanted to let everyone know, and again, thank you all for your thoughts of comfort and support.

Fondly,
--Gayle

Wishing you Love in 2009

Dear friends,

I wish you all good things as we enter this new year, looking forward to good, better and best for all of you.

I'm reading a very interesting trilogy right now, by Don Miguel Ruiz. The Four Agreements: Toltec Wisdom Collection. In these books, SeƱor Ruiz voices a concept that I have heard in the past from other teachers, that in truth there are actually only two emotions: love and fear. All other emotions are based on, and subsets of, these two.

Therefore, in 2009, I wish you all Love. May each situation you face be judged in light of whether love or fear is predominant in your hearts, and may you always be able to shift your emotions into the track of love. By doing this, we walk forth in 2009 creating, together, a better world for all.

Gift Certificates:
The holiday gift certificate special has ended. Of course, gift certificates are always available at the
regular session rate of $30/half hour session. There is, however, a special rate for anyone who orders three or more at one time. Ordering 3 or more gift certificates will reduce the cost per session to the "old" individual session rate of $25/session. Therefore one Gift Certificate will be $30, two will be $60, but three will be available for $75, with increments of $25 per certificate over three. Gift certificates are non-returnable, and they are valid for one full year from the purchase date. Once payment is received, your gift certificates will be sent via email as a PDF attachment (Acrobat Reader required to open and print) unless otherwise requested, so be sure I have a correct e-dress for you. Email me at allcreatures@gazehound.com for more information or to order.

Remember to keep track of your expiration dates. In light of the fact that I was among the missing for over a month, I have extended the expiration date from the 2007 holiday special gift certificates to the 31st of January, 2009. If you haven't yet redeemed your 2007 certificates, therefore, you still have a chance to do so.

Something new for '09 -- Facebook:
I've created a presence on the Facebook social network. If you would like to join me there, please click here to visit the page, and select to become a "Fan". In addition to links to the blog/e-news archives, there is a discussion forum, and places where Fans can upload photos and videos if they wish. I look forward to this new venue for keeping in touch with my animal friends and the humans who love them.

Gratitude:
In closing, I want to express my heart-felt thanks for all of your good wishes in the past year. There certainly have been some unique challenges in my life, as in many of your own, and your support has been a true treasure. May we use the experiences of the past as tools toward a brighter future, and always remember that it is Love that empowers us to grow.

Fondly,
--Gayle
